Laura, the owner of Wear Hair For You, is a beacon of light in the darkness that is…cancer. When faced with the reality of chemo and hair loss, there was only one location that was suggested to me, by other women who had walked this path before me. My appointment with Laura was wonderful. Right away, she dispelled all the fear that most of us women face, when dealing with hair loss due to chemo. Her professionalism, and welcoming nature made the experience truly positive and uplifting. She offers her knowledge and expertise about wigs with grace and dignity. One feels as though they are sitting in a cozy living room, and having a conversation with a dear friend.
Everyone is made to feel special and no concern is too small.
There is nothing beautiful about this disease. Yet, Laura, manages to walk us though this part of the journey, which can be so daunting for many of us. She puts back the word “beautiful” into a woman’s life during this time. No woman who walks into her studio will leave disappointed or unsure of their selection. She considers every aspect of your life, in order to pick the best wig, that will carry you though this time.
There are few women, if any, who can run this very unique kind of business, with professionalism and empathy. She is a strong and compassionate woman, and Wear Hair For You is most decidedly the ONLY destination for any woman or man, facing hair loss.
Thank you Laura, for helping all of us, and for making us feel confident in our journey ahead.
I wanted to send you a quick email to express our thanks to you for the wonderful service you provided us while looking for a wig. My wife was diagnosed with Breast Cancer a week before we visited your shop and were still overwhelmed with everything going on. You made us feel comfortable from the start and were able to find out what we were looking for without bombarding us. We stayed with you for more than an hour and we never felt pressured that you had another appointment. My wife tried on at least 15 wigs and several more than once. You were very honest with what you thought looked good and didn’t and we did not feel pressured to buy anything. We decided on a wig and we were able to take it home that day as you had so many in stock. Additionally, you provided us with a document that included all information needed to submit a claim into our insurance company without us even asking.
You truly were a pleasure to work with and obviously cared more about us and my wife’s comfort than making a sale. We were extremely happy with our experience and recommend you to everyone that we meet while getting chemo and at our appointments. Thank you so much!!
I think about you often, of course because I am wearing one of your wigs! I wonder often if you ever wonder what happens to some of the woman you sell wigs to that are fighting cancer. So…. I wanted to say hello and send a quick update. I am the blonde whom ran the half marathon two days before my bilateral mastectomy.
I am doing ok. My wig came into great use when our daughter graduated from college in May. My hair had just fallen out and I was grateful I had my wig. I continue to wear it daily at work a have had several “wow” compliments. I am on my second round of chemo with the exciting end of chemo on September 8! Followed by reconstructive surgery in late October. I should be ready to kick 2017 off with a bang!
You were so kind and thoughtful I just wanted to wish you well!
I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in October, 2016. I always felt that my long blonde hair was my best feature. So when I learned that I would be losing my hair I was devastated.
My oncologist’s office provided me with a lot of information and part of that package was a list of local wig shops. I really liked the look of your website and the testimonials made it an easy decision to call you for assistance. When I made that first phone call I was very nervous. I am sure that I was near tears when I left the message for a return call. You called me back in a short period of time and we scheduled an appointment.
My husband and I met with you and you immediately put me at ease. You helped me select the right wig for me. You took the time to listen to my concerns, my needs and even dealt with the tears.
The day came for me to pick up my wig. I still had my hair, but it been coming out more and more. You suggested that I wear the wig home. Boy, I was not prepared for that, but I did it. I was so self-conscious that I thought everyone would be staring and would know that I was wearing a wig. Nobody stared and nobody noticed. Little by little and day by day, I got more comfortable wearing the wig.
My daughter and I see the same hairdresser. I took her a few weeks ago to get her hair done and I was positive that our hairdresser would know I was wearing a wig. She did not! She commented that she liked my new hairstyle and was wondering if we were going somewhere special.
Laura, I can’t thank you enough for all of the help you have given me. I am not as self-conscious and I am very happy to have found you and Wear Hair For You. I have recommended you to those who have asked me where I got my wig.

It’s Betty Ann Thesz. Gerri Satooskey connected me to you while I was in the Chemo Infusion Suite. I got my wig Sept. 12 and my life has never bee the same! Everyone is going crazy about it, starting with my 2 daughters and my Fashionista 20 year old granddaughter! The store clerks who knew me before wanted to know the name of my new hair stylist! My last Chemo #4 was October2. I took October off to rest and recover. In November, I went back to my exercise class at the Jewish Community Center in Annandale. I’m not Jewish but the JCC is just a few blocks from my house. Everyone went crazy about my wig! One woman wanted your info. I went back to my Oncologist on Nov. 12 and hooked up with Darby Evans, my nurse navigator. She is going to give your info to everyone. Last Friday, Nov. 21, I went to see my Primary Care doc. He is in the same building as my hair stylist. So I decided to stop in and see her. I haven’t seen her since June. She ALWAYS has told me that she can tell when someone is wearing a wig. She did a double take and her jaw dropped to the floor. She actually asked me if that was my hair!!! She said it’s THE BEST wig she has ever seen! She could not tell! WOW!!! That’s HUGE!! Kudos to you, Laura! I have been washing my wig every two weeks. I never did go bald but my hair did thin a lot. It’s slowly starting to grow back. How long will my wig last? When should I get a new one? I also wanted to post a testimonial on your website. I am technically challenged and wasn’t able to do so. Please advise. Thanks! I pray that you have a blessed Thanksgiving! Much love and many hugs!
Thank you, Laura Waites. When I was diagnosed with cancer and told I would need chemo, I initially didn’t plan on getting a wig. As time passed and I thought more about losing my hair, I realized how important my hair was to me and how I wanted to look the same to the outside world as I did prior to chemo. Laura’s help in selecting the right wig for me was “priceless” and allowed me to look in the mirror and see the same outward me as before my real hair hit the bottom of my shower stall.

Laura, thank you so much for sending these pictures. I can’t get over how good I look! And my husband was AMAZED. Words cannot express the peace of mind that you gave me today. Suddenly, these next four months are far less scary to me. I cannot wait to see my beautiful new wig. Thank you so, so much for doing what you do…and for doing it with such a kind heart. You truly made today brighter for everyone in my family. <3
As an Oncology Nurse,
I am well aware of the adverse effects that chemotherapy can have on your body. Especially, dealing with hair loss from chemotherapy. So, you can imagine when I had a very dear friend tell me she has been diagnosed with cancer, and will be receiving treatment, I used all my resources to help her get through the “journey that lies ahead”
One of my first resources was: “Life with Cancer”. I was given a list of places that I can take my friend for wigs!
There are many places that I could have taken her, but after I did my research, I chose to take her to Wear Hair for you, in Vienna, VA. I read the testimonials, liked the location, but I especially liked that Laura Waites, had a personal struggle with hair loss. After reading this, I thought who better to understand, and “empathize” with someone with a “hair loss” issue, than her.
I called, and made an appointment. I learned so much just from our brief conversation on the phone, that fall day of 2013.
We were greeted on the day of our appointment by Laura, with a warm welcome and friendly smile. I was certain that I picked the right place to take my friend. Laura was so knowledgeable about the products, and took the time to answer questions. We never felt rushed, or pushed into buying something.
My friend was able to get a wig that looks so much like the color and style of her hair, that no one will ever know that she is wearing a wig. Laura did an amazing job, and was ” spot on” in picking the right wig!
You provide a great service, and are a great resource for those seeking answers to a fix a temporary or permanent hair problem.
Kudos to you Laura!!
Laura, I cannot put into words what your hair wigs and extensions have done for me. I came to you two years ago loosing my hair from stress related issues. To my surprise, no one knew I was wearing a wig. Two years later I am still a fan looking fantastic as ever with all the new styles you bring in. Keep up the good work and I’ll keep coming in. Bye the way, your new place is sooo beautiful.
Laura, I am really happy with the new snap on bang product. I really did not want to cut my hair. I did not realize these products even exist!!!! Now, I can have a different look anytime.
To whom it May Concern:
I am writing to share a personal point of view about an angel who walks this earth. Her wings may not be apparent, but Laura Waites giving spirit and huge heart are hard to overlook.
She’s a small business owner and a hard worker. Her first priority is her customers, and when you are in her wig shop, she makes you feel special. Not judged. Not questioned. Not embarrassed just special.
She’s willing to listen, though, if you care to share how cancer has taken your hair, what you’ve been through, what’s yet to come on this long journey, and how you need some “hair assistance”. She’s a great listener. Compassionate. Sympathetic. Genuine.
Her positive energy is contagious; overflowing; leaking out of the windows and doorway of her shop. You feel better when you leave her shop than you did when you first came in. Of course I know from experience.
I was diagnosed with cancer in August 2012.I was devastated. What I gained from Laura was far more than a wig or two. I was able to re-claim my self-confidence and believe I could thrive. And I quickly gained an understanding that for Laura, it’s not about wigs. It’s about the health and beauty of the women wearing them. Helping them to hold their heads up proudly and continue to fight the fight and end their journey victoriously. Laura was a stranger that day in September when I first walked into her shop, and yet, she promised she would work with me until I felt beautiful- indeed – even cutting and styling the wig that I picked so that it fit my small face better. And when I was having a down period due to aggressive chemotherapy…. without asking, without knowing…she made and brought to me delicious, nourishing, incredible chicken soup. Good for my health, as it is hard to eat sometimes, but even better for my heart and soul. And THAT’S what Laura is all about.
I just made a new best friend. Her name is Laura Waites and she is the owner of “Wear Hair For You.”
You see, my name is Geri Satossky and I am a cancer patient. I have been in and out of treatment for the last 14 years. I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999. My initial treatment rendered me bald. I bought a wig and after a year of treatment, I went into remission and when my hair grew back, I prayed that I would never have to deal with cancer or losing my hair again.
But as fate would have it, the cancer did return several times. Again, I got through the treatments, but thankfully, did not lose my hair.
After being stable for almost six years, the cancer has once again returned and once again, I am preparing to do battle. This time, I will be losing my hair. The diagnosis was bad enough, but losing my hair had left me even more devastated. I visited several wig shops; but could not find the quality I was looking for, nor the customer service one would expect in this situation.
Then a friend in my oncology group suggested I give Laura a try. I made an appointment and could not be happier with the results.
Laura is a certified wig specialist with an extensive background in dealing with women battling cancer and hair loss. For 8 years, she was an instructor at “Life With Cancer.” She then had a 2-year contract with Inova Fairfax Hospital. Upon leaving there, Laura decided it was time to open up her own business. The year was 2007. She has built her business based on quality wigs and excellent, excellent customer service.
Laura is not just a salesperson; this is her career. Her education and experience have made her an expert in her field. She has a private room where she gives you her full attention. She does not rush or try to sell you a wig that she feels is not becoming. She has a keen eye as to what looks good. Laura is not looking for that quick sale; bur rather a relationship with her customers.
As for me, I couldn’t be more satisfied. She has made what may prove to be a tough journey, a lot easier to deal with
Thank you Laura, My New Best Friend!
